Toyota announced today that it is voluntarily recalling 74 of its 2012 model year Yaris sub-compact hatchbacks.
The affected vehicles may experience a short circuit in their power steering control module because of insufficient distance between terminals in the unit, which would cause a loss of power steering and increased steering effort at low speeds. If this occurs, a warning light will appear on the dashboard to tell you that the steering feels heavier (in case you’re unable to notice the difference on your own).
Owners with affected vehicles will receive notification in the mail, at which point they will be asked to bring the car in to a dealer to have the power steering control module replaced.
